On January 9, 2025, Terres Inovia hosted a vibrant Multi-Actor Workshop in Paris, gathering 20 participants from across the legume value chain—from farmers to processors, policymakers to researchers. The aim? To explore how legumes contribute to ecosystem services and how these benefits can be better recognised and rewarded.
The day kicked off with insights from a national online survey that had gathered 47 responses ahead of the event. From there, the conversation blossomed into rich group discussions. Participants ranked the most valuable ecosystem services linked to legumes and worked together to identify the opportunities and threats around their socio-economic recognition.
In smaller breakout groups, attendees tackled real-world challenges. One group focused on legumes’ role in mitigating climate change, proposing ways to boost visibility and value for this benefit. Their ideas included the need for trustworthy incentives, region-specific emissions data, and reliable tools to help farmers make confident, future-proof decisions.
The energy was high, the conversations meaningful, and the appetite for action was clear. Participants left inspired and eager to stay involved in what comes next.
